Riding a Skim can be fun !
They lack fins, have a flat bottom, and a re small. Skim boards are squirrelly, fast, and you have a hard time finding a grip with them. You can't just hold an edge the same you do on a twin tip or a surfboard. Adjust your stance. Stand more up right over the board and you will not kick it out from under your and fall on your butt. If you want to carve upwind you have to use your back heel to really sink the upwind edge of the skim. Usually we lean back over the rail to gain edging. But the skim you want to push weight straight down onto the top of the board. So keep over the board, get your butt low, band your back leg, and concentrate on holding a firm edge. Now you can ride in one direction on a skim board.
